## What is the NBEO Part 1?

The NBEO Part 1 Applied Basic Science (ABS) is the first of three NBEO licensure examinations required for optometry licensure in the United States. It assesses knowledge, understanding, and application of the biomedical and visual science concepts essential for safe, effective independent optometric practice. It is administered by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) at Pearson VUE test centers.

### NBEO Part 1 Scoring and Results
- **Scaled score range**: 100-900
- **Passing score**: 300 (anything above 300 is passing)
- **No curve**: anyone achieving the passing score passes; equating adjusts raw scores across multiple forms
